Plumbing, heat and cooling in Galion

A leak, a cold house, no hot water, or a furnace that has run its last winter. Call the shop on South Riblet Street and say what you are looking at.

Four reasons people call

A row of new copper pipe couplings standing on end
Copper couplings, the small parts that stop a pinhole leak becoming a ceiling.

Water where it should not be

Shut the main valve first. In most basements it sits where the water line comes through the wall, near the meter.

Then call (419) 468-3328 and say where the water is coming from.

No heat

Check the thermostat batteries and the breaker. If the house is still cold, call.

Say whether you have a boiler with radiators or a furnace with ducts. They fail in different ways and the fix is different.

A cast-iron radiator of the kind older brick houses still heat with.
Gloved hands threading a steel nipple into the end of a white panel radiator

No hot water

Look for water under the tank and note whether it runs on gas or electric.

Water heater installation is on our list of work. Those two facts are the first things we will ask.

A furnace to replace

Heating and cooling are in the name. Call and describe the house and what is down there now.

If you can read the label on the old unit, have it in front of you.

A finished mechanical room. Tanks, a heating unit, and room to walk around both.

The work, by name

Nine kinds of work, each one a thing you can ask for on the phone.

Pipes and drains

Plumbing

Copper tube bent at the vise instead of joined with another fitting.
A chrome sink strainer seen from directly above
Where most drain calls begin.
Rows of black iron pipe and a gas meter mounted on an old brick wall

Heating and cooling

Heating
Boilers, furnaces and the piping or ductwork that carries the heat.
Cooling
Air conditioning, from the outdoor unit to the coil indoors.
A wall-mounted heating manifold with a row of flow tubes, a red circulator pump and a thermometer
A heating manifold. One loop per tube, each balanced on its own.
Close view of a red circulator pump, chrome valves and a temperature gauge on a plaster wall
Circulator, mixing valve and a gauge to read.

Under the yard

Excavating
Digging down to a buried line when it has to be reached.
Sewer line video inspection
A camera sent down the line, so the problem is seen before anyone digs.
Electronic line locating
Finding where a buried line runs from above ground.

Pipe on a gravel bed in an open trench, before the backfill.
Looking down into a narrow hand-dug trench through roots and dark soil
The last few feet are often dug by hand.

Things found in old basements

If something like this is in your house and it has started to drip, hiss or go cold, describe it when you call. A photo on your phone helps.

A lit gas torch with a narrow blue flame resting on a steel bench
A torch, for sweating copper joints.
An old column radiator against a tiled wall in low light
A radiator that has outlasted several boilers.
Two brass gas regulators with gauges and red and blue hoses mounted on a white wall
Regulators and hoses for the torch.
A white utility sink mounted on a painted brick basement wall
A utility sink on painted brick.
A metal downspout with a column of ice hanging from its mouth above snow
January, and what it does to water.

A cold night is when most of these calls get made. Stock photograph.
